bilingual literacy education

The literacy and citizenship education has been the top priority program for the agency because the primary mission of the agency is to provide assistance for recently arrived immigrants and refugees with cultural and language barriers so that they can overcome the barriers and become self-reliant. The program has been funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the past fifteen years. Over 300 adults and elderly participate in the program annually.

job counseling and placement

This program is designed to assist job seekers to find suitable jobs. The agency hosts a CareerLink Center and provides job related assistance for job seekers and employers in cooperation with the CareerLink Center.

housing counseling

This program is primarily for first-time homebuyers who need assistance in obtaining the necessary counseling for a mortgage. Also, a city settlement grant of $800 per homebuyer, and counseling for how to avoid becoming victims of predatory lending practices are provided. This program has been funded by the Office of Housing and Community Development of the City of Philadelphia for the past three years.

housing development

The agency has been involved in housing development for first-time homebuyers by acquiring vacant properties mostly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Development and renovate and sell them to first-time homebuyers.

rental housing program

The agency has and manages 17 rental units for low- to moderate-income families.

immigration and legal assistance

Newly-arrived immigrants and refugees experience serious problems in dealing with public and private companies as well as individuals because they do not understand the English language and legal documents in particular when they apply for immigration. The agency provides initial intake counseling and refers clients to a few community-oriented attorneys if needed so that the clients receive appropriate legal assistance.

community relations for Korean businesses

The agency began a Thanksgiving turkey food basket program in cooperation with the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition in 1984 on behalf of the Korean-American business people who promote better understanding and relations with low-income residents in their neighborhoods, and make contributions to the program. About 1,000 turkey food baskets are being distributed to low-income neighborhood residents annually.
